Past Events at the Chateau de Balsac
Every year at Château de Balsac, we host a variety of events — from hands-on culinary experiences to immersive arts workshops.
Each gathering is unique and offers something special, whether it is deep cultural immersion, creative exploration, or the opportunity to learn entirely new skills.

We are happy to share a glimpse into how some of our past events unfolded:

Participants sourced materials from local brocantes and vide-greniers, transforming discarded books through folding, cutting, layering, and mixed-media techniques into sculptural and expressive artworks. The workshop welcomed both emerging and experienced artists, fostering a supportive and inspiring creative environment.
Led by feminist artist and author Tanya Wilkinson, PhD, the workshop offered a rare opportunity to slow down, create, and connect with the cultural and historical depth of Aveyron.

Beyond the kitchen, the experience explored the rhythms of everyday French life through visits to local villages, local producers, farms, and the Rodez Farmers Market, where participants shopped with a chef before cooking and sharing a meal created together. When the season allowed, cooking incorporated homegrown organic fruits, vegetables, and freshly picked herbs.
Blending gastronomy, craftsmanship, and cultural immersion, the workshop offered a true taste of Aveyron — its produce, traditions, and way of life.

Working side by side with local chefs and the host, participants prepared every dish from scratch — from pastries and desserts to sauces, vegetables, and beautifully plated final creations. Cooking sessions took place both in the château’s modern kitchen and in professional restaurant kitchens, offering a hands-on and authentic culinary experience.
The workshop was led in collaboration with Christophe Chaillou, Chef at Café Bras, who brought over 15 years of teaching experience to the program.

Designed to adapt to each participant’s interests and skill level, the workshop focused on hands-on learning through daily photographic outings. Using the camera as a creative tool, participants explored portraiture, landscape, still life, and abstract expression, capturing the region’s light, textures, and quiet moments.
The workshop was led by Susan Brand, whose thoughtful and supportive approach encouraged participants to slow down, observe more deeply, and develop their own visual voice.
